Mochlos is a small picturesque fishing village located In the gulf of Mirabello in Eastern Crete, easily within reach of Agios Nikolaos, Ierapetra and Sitia.There is not much to do in this village, but that is precisely why people come to Mochlos. You can relax in one of the taverns along the water or take a sunbath on the only sandy beach. Some people also come for the uninhabited island off the coast with the same name. On this island, mainly American archaeologists are excavating an important Minoan settlement. The small chapel situated on the right of the site is dedicated to St Nicolas who protects the seamen.Mochlos has a population of just over 100, with a significant number of foreigners who came and never left. Life in the village mainly takes place around the central square and on the waterfront.
