Plakias Boat Tours – The Best Boat Trip in South Crete | Explore Loutro, Marmara & White Beach
A Perfect Day at Sea with Plakias Boat Tours – The Best Boat Trip in South Crete
If you follow us on Instagram, you already know how much we adore Crete — its beaches, its people, and its endless sunshine. But one of the best ways to experience the beauty of this island is from the sea. Recently, we joined Plakias Boat Tours for another incredible day out on the water, and it truly became one of our favorite adventures in Crete!
Our Friends at Plakias Boat Tours
We’ve known Lisa and Tassos, the owners of Plakias Boat Tours, for about a year and a half now. Over that time, we’ve developed a wonderful friendship — they’re both warm, genuine people with a true passion for sharing the beauty of southern Crete.
About the Boats
Plakias Boat Tours has four boats in their fleet — a fishing boat, two smaller speedboats and one larger vessel for groups. We’ve already been lucky enough to enjoy trips on their smaller boats:
- The Escape – a 300hp Suzuki-powered RIB for up to 7 passengers
- The Salty Cruiser – a 300hp boat that fits up to 10 passengers

Both boats are fast, powerful, and perfect for exploring the hidden beaches and secret coves of South Crete. Cruising along the coastline on these boats is pure freedom and fun — the kind of experience you’ll remember forever.
The Speed Boat Lux Tour – Our Favorite Experience
This time, we joined their Speed Boat Lux Tour, and we can’t recommend it enough. It’s a great mix of adventure, relaxation, and authentic Cretan charm. The order of the stops can vary depending on the weather or your preferences, but here’s what you can expect:
White Beach
The tour often starts at this "secret beach", famous for its turquoise-blue water and natural white clay. You can enjoy a fun clay “spa” right there — great for your skin and for those tropical-style photos! It’s peaceful, beautiful, and feels like a private paradise.

Marmara Beach
Next up is Marmara, located at the end of the Aradena Gorge. The water here is crystal clear and deep blue, surrounded by stunning caves. It’s an incredible place for swimming and snorkeling. While anchored, you can relax on board with drinks and snacks, or try the Yamaha water scooter for extra fun. And for the adventurous ones — yes, there’s cliff jumping too!

Loutro Village
Another highlight is Loutro, one of the most picturesque villages in Crete. With its whitewashed houses, blue-painted windows, and peaceful setting, it’s like stepping into a postcard. Loutro is only accessible by boat or a long hike, which makes it feel even more special. You’ll have time to enjoy lunch in one of the local tavernas and stroll through the village. (Lunch is not included in the tour price.)

Vrachokipos Taverna
Just before reaching Loutro, you can also choose to stop at Vrachokipos, a hidden gem of a seaside taverna built right along the E4 hiking trail. It’s a truly unique place — the owner can even pick you up from Loutro with his small boat if you wish to dine there. The food is fresh, local, and made with love, and the views are absolutely breathtaking. Simply ask your captains, Tassos or Frank, if you’d like to include this stop — they’re always flexible and happy to make your day unforgettable.

Sea Caves Along the Way
One of the most magical parts of the journey is exploring the sea caves along the south coast. The captains often slow down or even take the boat inside the caves, letting you admire the dramatic rock formations and shimmering blue reflections created by the sunlight on the water. It’s an unforgettable sight and a must for anyone who loves nature and photography.

Why We Love It
We’ve explored many parts of Crete, but this boat tour truly stands out. Between the stunning beaches, fun water activities, and warm hospitality, it’s an experience you’ll never forget. Tassos and Frank are amazing captains — friendly, professional, and passionate about showing guests the best of South Crete.
